11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis: - Represent an overview of the research situation related to vocabulary in Western countries, China and Vietnam; - Develop a basic theoretical framework for conducting survey and statistics; - Basically conduct a relatively complete and coherent survey of vocabulary systems provided in the textbooks according to 7 specific facets; - Make comparison and highlight the advantages in the current Vietnamese textbooks as well as existing shortcomings and limitations that need to be overcome; - Come up with valuable recommendations and suggestions for revising and improving the quality of current Vietnamese language teaching textbook compilation; - Propose common words table (4000 words) for basic levels (elementary, intermediate), selected by decreasing frequency from the thesis’s corpus. 12. Practical applicability, if any: The thesis shows a belief that the research results as well as its recommendations and suggestions will help later compiling authors to effectively overcome current limitations to develop more suitable and comprehensive textbooks. 13. Further research directions, if any: - Expand the scope of the survey, for example to survey all the textbooks which are already in use in China; - Expand the scope and subjects of research, for example not only at the elementary level but also at both intermediate and advanced levels. 14.
